A 1979 Northwestern College graduate and former all-district football player, Dr. Otten holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in exercise science from the University of Iowa. He teaches Weight Training, Racquetball, Adapted Physical Education, Teaching of Sports, Coaching of Football, Assessment in Physical Education, and Methods of Secondary Physical Education and Health. Otten also supervises physical education student teachers and has been a member of the AEA 4 physical education committee. He has received certification as a facilitator for both low- and high-challenge course elements, and he is a frequent presenter at coaching clinics and physical education conferences. The Raiders’ head football coach, Otten was named the 2000 NAIA Coach of the Year by American Football Monthly after leading his team to the national semifinals.
