ESL Certificate

TOEFL requirement: 32 (or 400 on the non-computer test), 3.5 IELTS

Northwestern offers an ESL certificate program for non-native speakers who want to develop their English skills. The program is for:

  • High school graduates who need an improved TOEFL score to enroll in a U.S. college or university
  • Professionals who need better English skills before enrolling in English-speaking graduate programs
  • Business persons who want to improve their English for better employment

The programs include intensive English course work designed to help participants achieve proficiency goals in reading, listening, speaking and writing. Living in the English-speaking environment of our residence halls also provides opportunities for conversational practice.

For the second consecutive year, Northwestern College is ranked in a tie for fourth among Midwestern baccalaureate colleges in U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges guidebook. Learn more
