Hurricane Katrina relief
The effects of Hurricane Katrina were felt at Northwestern too. The college opened its doors to displaced students, and students, faculty and staff raised over $4,000 in the days following the disaster for the Red Cross and Reformed Church World Service. Students also donated 790 teddy bears to be distributed to children affected by the hurricane through Hugs Across America.
Northwestern especially is seeking to support Gulf Coast ministries our students have served through Spring Service Projects (SSP): Trinity Christian Community, Urban Impact and Vieux Carre Baptist Church, New Orleans; The Mendenhall Ministries, Mendenhall, Miss.; and Voice of Calvary Ministries, Jackson, Miss. Visit those ministries’ webpages for information about their needs and relief efforts.
If you are looking for a way to help, you are welcome to join the short-term mission efforts of the Northwestern College community. For further information, contact Jill Erickson, director of missions, or Dave Nonnemacher, service learning coordinator.
