Brett Gray, a junior from Underwood, Iowa, presented a paper, “The Rise of Slaves: African-American Participation in the Civil War,” as part of a session on U.S. history.

Two Northwestern students—James Bierly, a junior from Hull, Iowa, and Hannah Cornthwaite, a sophomore from Clyde Park, Mont.,—each offered comments on papers.
