Bob Winn, Ph.D.

After earning a master’s degree in history from Miami University of Ohio, Dr. Winn completed a Ph.D. in early Christian studies at the Catholic University of America. His research interests include religious and intellectual history in late antiquity and the early medieval and early Byzantine periods. Prior to joining Northwestern’s faculty, he was a visiting professor at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dr. Winn has published articles in the Journal of Early Christian Studies, Studia Patristica and The Greek Orthodox Theological Review. His book reviews have appeared in the Journal of Religion and Society, Church History and the Journal of Early Christian Studies. He has also presented papers at the International Conference on Patristic Studies.
He is a member of the American Historical Association, the American Academy of Religion, and the North American Patristics Society. At Northwestern, Dr. Winn teaches Western Civilization to 1789, Issues in Western Civilization since 1789, and upper-level courses in ancient and medieval history.
