Cornie Wassink has been part of Northwestern’s advancement office since 1979, beginning as an assistant director of development, and also serving as the alumni director. In 1983 he was named director of capital fund raising. He served in that capacity until 2001. Since 1988 he has also served as the director of planned giving. In addition to managing the college’s planned giving program, he is in charge of NWC’s endowed scholarship program and remains involved with capital fund raising.

Wassink helped raise funds for most of Northwestern’s major buildings, including the Bultman Athletic Center, Rowenhorst Student Center, DeWitt Theatre Arts Center, Van Peursem Hall, Zwemer Hall and Christ Chapel, as well as for the renovation of De Valois Stadium/Korver Field.

During his time at Northwestern, he has also been involved in numerous community-based fundraising efforts in both Orange City and Alton and for the Floyd Valley and MOC-Floyd Valley Community School Districts.

A 1973 NWC graduate, Wassoml is a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). He served as president of the Planned Giving Council of Siouxland, as regional chair of the National Committee on Planned Giving’s “Leave a Legacy®” program and as president of the Leave A Legacy® in Iowa state board of directors. He is also an active member of District VI of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). In 2004, his involvement in CASE—including roles as the district’s chair, board member, treasurer and conference program chair—earned him the District VI Distinguished Service Award.
