McCarty named defensive coordinator

Mar 31, 2005
Matt McCarty has been named defensive coordinator at Northwestern College. He replaces former defensive coordinator, Josh Bolluyt, who held the position for four years. McCarty will take over a defense that led the NAIA in several defensive categories last season, including scoring defense, total defense (190.6 ypg), pass defense (85 ypg), pass defense efficiency (61.3) and in opponents’ first downs allowed (106).
McCarty, a Northwestern alum (’03) and former player for Head Coach Orv Otten, earned four letters as a defensive back for the Raiders. A three-time all-GPAC selection, he earned NAIA honorable mention honors his senior year. He has been teaching and coaching in the Okoboji school district for one year. McCarty served as assistant varsity football coach with primary duties for the defense. He also worked with the head coach in developing the overall game plan.
“We are pleased to have Matt join our football staff,” commented Athletic Director Barry Brandt. “His presence will help ensure our commitment in providing quality leadership for the young men who are part of the Northwestern football program. Matt will be an excellent coach and recruiter.”
