Application-driven freshman scholarships

While the majority of Northwestern College scholarships are awarded by matching students with the scholarships for which they best meet the criteria, a few require separate applications. Applicants for the following scholarships must be incoming full-time freshmen.

BIOLOGY

Biology Department Scholarship

Two of the following three criteria:

  • High school GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Top 10% of high school class
  • Combined math and science ACT score of at least 55

Luke Scholarship

  • Strong evidence of Christian faith and character in school, church and/or community
  • Top 5% of high school class or with a minimum GPA of 3.8
  • Minimum ACT composite score of 28 (or comparable SAT score)
  • Intent to enter one of the following health science professions after graduating from Northwestern: physician (M.D. or D.O.), physician’s assistant, optometry, dentistry, podiatric medicine, or physical therapy
  • Preference given to applicants who are pre-medicine students

Chemistry Department Scholarship

  • Combined math and science reasoning ACT score of at least 50
  • Tentative plans to major in chemistry

  • Combined math and science reasoning ACT score of at least 50

McGilvra Music Scholarship

  • Available to the following fields of music: brass, keyboard, music ministry, percussion, strings, vocal, woodwinds
  • Declared music major
  • On-campus audition

NURSING

Christian Nursing Scholarship

  • Nursing major
  • First preference for member of Wichert Reformed Church of Saint Anne, IL
  • Second preference for resident of Illinois
  • If no applicant satisfies the first and second preference criteria, any incoming freshman nursing student will be eligible for consideration

Nursing Department Scholarship

  • Entering freshman in the pre-nursing program who has submitted the nursing program deposit
  • Projected Northwestern College cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (This information will be submitted to the nursing department by the admissions office.)
  • A 250-to-500-word essay on why you want to study nursing and how you plan to integrate your faith into your life as a nurse
  • A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher familiar with your character and academic abilities
  • On-campus or phone interview
