Guest writers
English students have regular opportunities to learn from and interact with visiting writers. Jim Heynen, who has written for Harper’s and has authored numerous books, visited in 2004 to teach, read and evaluate students’ writing for Spectrum, Northwestern’s literary magazine. In 2003, poet Mary Swander came to campus to read from her book The Desert Pilgrim. Jim Davis, director of the Iowa Writing Project, which provides professional development opportunities for Iowa teachers, is also a frequent campus visitor.
