With a master’s degree in English education from the University of Iowa, Professor Van Es has made a career out of teaching. She has taught English to high school students, to Chinese students in Taiwan, to nurses seeking a B.S.N. degree and to many college freshmen. Her expertise is in editing and grammar; her summers often are spent pouring over book manuscripts as a copy editor. She is a contributor to writing handbooks, including the high school favorite, Writers Inc. At Northwestern, she primarily works with English education students and provisional freshmen.
