Instructor in English
712-707-7049 menning@nwciowa.edu
After a decade of teaching English and French at the high school and junior college level, Professor Menning first came to Northwestern as a writer in the public relations office. She eventually began teaching freshman-level writing courses, leading to her current position as a writing and literature instructor.
Menning is the editor of the English department’s newsletter, Wordhord. She also was one of NWC’s first faculty members to participate in the Pedagogy Project, which she says has re-energized her teaching methods. She is the 2004 college-teaching recipient of the Iowa Council of Teachers of English Literacy Award for her work on behalf of Iowa students and their learning of the language arts. She serves on the board for the Iowa Council of Teachers of English.
Menning has a bachelor’s degree in history from Simpson College and a master’s degree in English from Illinois State University. She also has taken writing and teaching courses at Iowa State and the University of Northern Iowa.
