Campus opportunities for readers and writers
The Writing Center
“I tutor to learn from the students I work with,” says one Writing Center tutor—evidence again that if you want to learn something well, teach it to others. Capable writers are recommended by their professors to tutor beginning writers. Tutors are paid for their work, but that’s nothing compared to the priceless resumé-building experience they gain.
Beacon student newspaper
Don’t just read about editorial ethics, beat systems, evasive sources and press deadlines; do the real deal—until the wee hours of Friday morning with the staff of Northwestern’s Beacon. Interview, research, write, ride out the reviews and do it all over again next week. Production nights include pizza! Read NWC’s Beacon online.
Spectrum literary magazine
Published annually, Spectrum features student fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Submissions are judged by a published author. Request a copy from the publication’s adviser, Dr. Carl Vandermeulen.
