Professor Oliver received the national Daimler-Benz Award for excellence in the teaching of German in 1999 while an instructor at Le Mars (Iowa) Community High School. She also worked as a youth development specialist for Iowa State University Extension, earning the New Professional of the Year Award in 2001, before joining Northwestern’s faculty. Oliver has traveled and taught nationally and internationally, and her passions are multicultural education and effective secondary teaching methods. She earned a master’s degree at Drake University.
