Campus opportunities for education students
 |
| Area children—and Northwestern education majors—learn from nationally acclaimed children’s book authors like Jane Kurtz when Northwestern hosts Young Authors’ Day each spring. |
Many opportunities to learn outside the classroom and prepare to be an educator are available on campus. The Student Iowa State Education Association brings in guest speakers to talk about different issues in the field. Education students can also help with Young Authors’ Day, sponsored by area education agencies and held on Northwestern’s campus each year. Professors take students with them to conferences—such as the International Reading Association Midwest Regional Convention and Iowa Learning Disabilities Association Conference—so they learn the importance and process of professional development.
