Disaster relief
More than three years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast region, relief and rebuilding efforts continue, and members of the Northwestern community are partnering with various ministries to offer assistance and encouragement.
In December 2006 and '07, teams of faculty, staff and students traveled to New Orleans and other Gulf Coast communities to support relief efforts. During spring break in March 2007 and '08, more teams provided hurricane relief. At one New Orleans site, 10 Northwestern theatre students created a drama to tell the stories of those who survived Katrina.
The volunteer efforts of Northwestern students have earned the college a spot on the first President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Northwestern was among only 140 schools out of 500 on the honor roll cited for distinguished service. Read more ...
