Hardware and software
Northwestern’s computer laboratories include a wide variety of hardware and software to provide students with a thorough background and to support a broad spectrum of activities. Students in the computer science department have access to computers that run Mac OS X, Linux and Windows XP. In addition, over 300 networked computers on campus allow for easy access to Northwestern’s communications network, including e-mail and the Internet.
Every Northwestern residence hall room is wired for access to the campus network. With the purchase of a network adapter, students can access the network using their own computers (as long as the computer meets the minimum requirements established by the computing services department). Students also have immediate access to a large selection of software and several laser printers for high-quality output.
