Checklist for juniors
Review your academic plan as early as possible with your academic adviser. Make sure you are on track.
Use your electives to enhance your qualifications in computers, public speaking, writing, language or other areas in which you need to improve.
Explore career trends related to your interests, skills, values and goals using resources in the Career Development Center.
Join professional and/or student associations and organizations that relate to your career interest.
Conduct informational interviews with professionals in the industry you plan to enter to ensure you have a solid understanding of the expectations and skills necessary to enter the career.
Develop a resumé and have it critiqued by the Writing Center and the Career Development Center. (Resumé writing guides are available in the CDC.)
Cultivate potential references from faculty, staff and supervisors.
Attend career development workshops on resumé writing, graduate school planning, interviewing skills and more.
Practice your interviewing skills with a mock interview at the CDC.
Attend all career fairs and begin to develop leads and contacts for your job search.

Departmental internships: Applications are in the CDC. Deadlines are Sept. 30 and March 15. (Must be junior status and have a GPA above 2.0.)
Off-campus and study abroad opportunities: Information is in the CDC. Deadline for these experiences is March 15 the academic year prior to participating.
Summer of Service and Spring Service Projects: Information is available in the Franken Center for Faith, Learning and Living.
Part-time and summer job information is available in the CDC.
Interact with your professors. Your instructors are your academic lifelines. Make sure they know you by name, and use them as your resource persons. Don’t be shy—use the established office hours to visit your professors to discuss problems and questions.
Attend the GRE prep session held in October (specific date to be announced).
Take the GRE, MCAT, LSAT or GMAT if you are planning on attending graduate school.
