Pre-dentistry
The pre-dentistry program prepares students for entrance into a college of dentistry and an eventual career as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.). Dental schools require a minimum of three years of college-level, pre-dentistry education (90 semester hours) that must include courses in both the sciences and the humanities. Most students admitted to dental school have completed their four-year undergraduate degree.
All dental schools participate in a nationwide testing program (DAT) and select their students based on DAT scores, along with the applicant’s cumulative grade point average (GPA), science course GPA, letters of recommendation and interview information. The mean cumulative GPA of students accepted to dental schools is 3.25-3.50. Dental education is four years.
