Ecological science

Students interested in environmental issues, preservation or habitat conservation can focus their biology study to major in ecological science. Taught from a biblical perspective of environmental stewardship and appreciation for God's creation, the ecological science major includes field-oriented studies of local populations and communities. Advanced courses focus on avian ecology, animal behavior, plant ecology and aquatic systems.

Ecological science professors Dr. Laurie Furlong and Dr. Todd Tracy are field researchers themselves. Furlong studies stream ecology; Tracy studies avian biology. Both have included students in their research.

Ecological science majors are required to complete at least one field experience. The field experience requirement can be met by participating in an Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies course, Creation Care Study Program or by conducting summer field research or an internship with a professional environmental agency or organization.
