The Raiders will look to extend their win streak to four games in this afternoon's matchup against Briar Cliff. Coach Cliff's squad enters the contest in fifth place with a 5-2-1 conference record, 7-6-1 overall. In their last contest, the Raiders defeated Doane, 3-0, and earned their fifth shutout of the season. Ashely Sales scored two goals and leads the team with seven goals scored. Becca Bruns scored the other goal, her first of the season. As a team, the Raiders average two goals per game and give up just 1.49 goals per contest, fourth best in the GPAC.
The Chargers are 3-6 in the GPAC, 4-8-1 overall. In their last action on Oct. 8, BC suffered a 0-2 setback to Nebraska Wesleyan. Freshman goalkeeper Mikayla Martins stopped ten NWU shots but the Charger offense only mustered two shots over the 90 minutes. Junior midfielder Kristina Ruhlman leads Briar Cliff with six goals scored. Ashley Wehle, a freshman midfielder, has two goals this season. Martins has 82 saves and a goals against average of 1.69 leading into today's match-up.
Last year, the two teams battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie on Korver Field in Orange City, Iowa.
The Raiders lost to Briar Cliff by the final score of 0-1. With the loss, the Raiders' record drops to 7-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the conference. The Chargers scored off a penalty kick during the 74th minute for the game's only goal. BC outshot the Raiders 11-7 and goalkeeper Liz Reynen tallied ten saves.
Coach Cliff's squad will next play Dana College in Blair, Neb., on Oct. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
