Women's Golf team announces postseason awards

May 12, 2006

The Red Raider women’s golf team announced their postseason awards, and senior Kara Van De Berg (Sioux Center, Iowa) earned Most Valuable Player honors. Van De Berg, who posted a 92.6 average, was the team captain and inspirational leader last fall before spending the spring interning in Chicago, Ill. Sophomore Melissa Hisel (Boise, Idaho) had the best scoring average on the team with an 89.3. She earned GPAC all-conference honors after finishing in sixth place at the GPAC tournament. Hisel also led the Red Raiders with an eighth place finish at the NAIA Region III meet. Sophomore Paige Kleinwolterink (Boyden, Iowa) and freshman Lisa Horn (Hawkeye, Iowa) earned Most Improved honors. Kleinwolterink improved her average by almost four strokes from last year while Horn improved the most during the season. Carrie Spree (Parkersburg, Iowa) earned Newcomer-of-the-Year honors. The freshman was fourth on the team with a 94 average and finished in 18th place overall at the NAIA Region III meet.

The Red Raiders finished their season with nine top-five finishes, including a first place finish at the Waldorf Invitational on April 10. The team qualified for regional play after their fourth place finish in the GPAC conference meet on October 13-14. After the first day of the regional meet, NW trailed eventual regional champion Dakota Wesleyan by just one stroke before falling back to fourth by the end of the second day.
