After coming off one of the most successful seasons in history, the Red Raiders have reason for optimism and high expectations in 2006. Coach Harold Hoftyzer’s squad returns six players from last year’s team that finished in fourth in the conference and qualified for NAIA Region III play. Joining the young but veteran crew will be six newcomers, including two transfer sophomores and four freshmen, which will give Hoftyzer his largest squad in school history. “We will have a nice balance between experience and first-year players, which will give us the opportunity to be competitive in one of the largest conferences in the NAIA,” comments Hoftyzer. With such a large squad, the Red Raiders will be able to field a full JV squad for the first time in Hoftyzer’s tenure. “To be able to field a full JV team is exciting for us. It shows the commitment Northwestern has to our student-athletes and to women’s golf.”
