Service-learning opportunities
Northwestern student-athletes enjoy many opportunities to combine their love for sports with opportunities to learn while serving others. Raider coaches regularly lead their players on intercultural trips overseas and in the United States.
During the summer of 2006, members of the football team toured Italy, where—in addition to sightseeing—they competed against local teams, coached a youth team and shared their faith with Italian players and fans.
In 2005:
- The volleyball team conducted camps, played local teams and worked with children at an orphanage in Brazil.
- The women’s soccer team spent 10 days in Costa Rica, conducting youth camps, playing two local club teams and working on construction at a seminary.
- The wrestling team ministered in the Czech Republic, practicing and competing with area clubs and working with youth at schools, after-school programs and orphanages.
In 2004:
- Members of the baseball team worked and held clinics in Moldova.
- The softball team ministered to inner-city youth in Tucson, Arizona.
