Burlea, Wallinga Earn NAIA Honors

Junior Mihai Burlea (Botosani, Romania) earned NAIA honorable mention All-American honors for his play during the 2007 baseball season. The righthander led the Raiders with a 12-1 record and a 3.06 ERA. Burlea totaled a league best 113 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched and walked just 37. He was the first player since Ethan Miller (2002) to earn All-American honors.
Kent Wallinga (Sanborn, Iowa) was named an NAIA Scholar Athlete for the 2007 season. A senior exercise science major, Wallinga went 1-0 in four games for the Red Raiders this year.
Both Burlea and Wallinga were part of a Red Raider baseball team which set a school record with 37 wins and won their first ever Region III baseball championship. NWC then advanced to play #8 Bellevue in the NAIA Super Regional where they lost a pair of games to the Bruins to end their season with a 37-18 mark.
