Burlea Named Region III Pitcher of the Year, Janssen and Wall earn Region Honors

| Grant Wall | Mihai Burlea, Jr. Botosani, Romania, was named the Region III pitcher of the Year for his performance during the 2007 baseball season. Burlea is currently 12-0 for Northwestern and has a 3.03 ERA for the season. In his last 12 starts Burlea is 12-0 with a 2.06 ERA. Burlea has set single season Northwestern records for strike outs, 110 (67, Bob Van Es, 1971, 1973), wins, 12 (9, Tryg Johnson 1994, 1996), and innings pitched, 89 (74, Tryg Johnson, 1996).
Michael Janssen, Sr. Ackely, Iowa, was named first team Region III Designated Hitter. Janssen is hitting .360 this spring and has 37 RBI. Janssen has had a very productive career for the Red Raiders thus far, ranking in the top 20 in runs scored (#20, 96), doubles (#8, 31), walks (#2, 90), and RBI (#12, 90).
Grant Wall, Soph. Mountain Lake, Minn, was named first team Region III Utility Infield. Wall, the GPAC Player of the Year, sports a .411 avg to go along with 19 doubles, four triples, and five home runs. Wall has scored 46 runs and drivin in 36 teammates. Wall broke the single season record for doubles, previously held by Koury Kramer. (17, 2000)
Northwestern will face Bellevue on Thursday at 6:00 P.M. in Omaha, Nebr. in the NAIA Plains Super Regional Best of Three Series for game one, again on Friday at 1:00 P.M., and 30 minutes following the completion of game two if a game three is needed. The Plains Super Regional winner will automatically qualify for the 2007 Avista NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, starting May 25.
