Northwestern and Briar Cliff to battle in final GPAC weekend.

GAMETIME... Friday, April 27th in Orange City, Iowa at 4:30/6:30 P.M.

SCOUTING REPORT...Briar Cliff enters today's games alone at the top of the GPAC standings with a 15-5 conference record and they are 22-14 overall.  The Chargers post a .305 team batting average, third in the conference.  They are led offensively by Jeff Butcher (.353) and Chris Stevenson (.347).  Stevenson has driven in 39 runs, which puts him in the top five in the conference.  Mike Schwartz (.340), Josh Malenosky (.333), David Callahan (.318), Andrew Swank (.306), and Matt Lee (.306) also have batting averages over .300.  Ryan Gorsett (3-2) leads Briar Cliff, on the mound, with a 2.19 ERA.  Andy Keane, Stephen Keane, Jared Jacobs, Eric Fox, J.D. Lindsay, and Tony McFarland have also started games for the Chargers who have a team ERA of 4.79, fourth in the GPAC.
 
LAST TIME OUT... Northwestern swept Dordt College 11-10 and 8-5 in a non-conference doubleheader to improve their overall record to 29-11.  Kent Wallinga picked up his first win of the season in game one as Northwestern scored six runs in the sixth to take an 11-10 lead and Justin Lane saved his eighth game of the year pitching a scoreless seventh inning.  Jake Jansen drove in four runs and Joe Heitritter scored three times for Northwestern.  The Red Raiders pounded ten hits in game two of the double header and picked up an 8-5 win behind the pitching of Brad Payne (3-0), Andrew Engesser, and Lane.  Lane pitched another scoreless seventh to tally his ninth save.

RED RAIDER NOTES... Northwestern raised its league leading .346 batting average to .347, but also saw its GPAC leading ERA climb to 4.06.  Jake Jansen increased his batting average to .478 and added four doubles in Thursday's doubleheader.  Michael Janssen also saw his batting average increase adding four hits and driving in six runners.  Jansen (.478), Grant Wall (.415), Janssen (.377), Joe Heitritter (.371), Matt Gray (.359), Austin Malone (.353), and Codie Zeutenhorst (.306) all have .300+ batting averages for Northwestern.

Burlea leads Northwestern on the mound with an 8-0 record and has a 3.63 ERA.  Dusty Meyn paces the team with a 2.72 ERA and is 5-3.  Jake Koerselman (6-1, 4.42) and Joe Grady (4-5, 3.91) round out the league leading staff.  Justin Lane's nine saves is currently second in the GPAC.

NEXT UP... The Raiders travel to Sioux Center for the final GPAC doubleheader versus Dordt College.  Start times are set for 1:00/3:00 P.M.
