Dordt-Northwestern non-conference preview

GAMETIME... Wednesday, April 25th in Orange City, Iowa at 5:00/7:00 P.M.

SCOUTING REPORT... Dordt won its last game, 3-2, on April 21st versus Midland Lutheran to salvage a split in the GPAC doubleheader.  They improved their record to 6-22 and 4-12 in the conference.  Dordt is led by Bobby Lutke, who is hitting .329, Travis DeJong, and Dillon Peters.  The Defenders are hitting .257 as a team.  On the mound, Chris Liebhart leads the staff with a 2.25 ERA in 32 innings; he is currently 1-3.  
 
LAST TIME OUT... Northwestern went 3-1 in a GPAC weekend to improve their conference record to 12-6 and move to 27-11 overall.  The Raiders swept Nebraska Wesleyan (15-5, 8-1) and split with Mount Marty College (0-10, 3-1).  Dusty Meyn and Grant Wall earned conference pitcher and player of the week honors for their efforts the past week.  Meyn, a senior pitcher from Hull, Iowa, earned GPAC Pitcher-of-the-Week honors after he went 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He defeated both Midland Lutheran and Nebraska Wesleyan. In 13 innings pitched, Meyn gave up four runs, struck out four and walked one.  Wall, a sophomore from Mountain Lake, Minn., earned GPAC co-Player-of-the-Week honors. Wall led the Raiders with a .682 batting average with 10 RBIs. He hit four doubles and one home run. 

RED RAIDER NOTES... During the 3-1 weekend, Northwestern maintained its league leading .346 batting average and still sits atop the GPAC with a 3.86 ERA.  Jake Jansen paces the offense with a GPAC leading .458 batting average and has set the school record for times hit by a pitch with 14.  Grant Wall passed Koury Kramer's old school record for doubles in a season hitting his 18th double in game two on Saturday.  Wall is hitting .415 on the season, fifth in the GPAC.  Joe Heitritter (.392), Austin Malone (.370), Michael Janssen (.364), Matt Gray (.337), and Codie Zeutenhorst (.337) all post .300+ batting averages as well.

Burlea leads Northwestern on the mound with an 8-0 record and has a 3.63 ERA.  Dusty Meyn paces the team with a 2.72 ERA and is 5-3.  Jake Koerselman (6-1, 4.42) and Joe Grady (4-5, 3.91) round out the league leading staff.  Justin Lane's seven saves is currently second in the GPAC.

NEXT UP... The Raiders host the first place Briar Cliff Chargers on Friday, April 27 in a GPAC double dip; game times are 4:30/6:30 P.M.
