After the weather wrecked havoc on this weekend's games, the Raiders will return to the baseball diamond today for a GPAC doubleheader against Concordia University. The Bulldogs from Seward, Neb., are 3-20 overall, 1-3 in the league while NWC is 16-6 overall and 2-2 in the GPAC. First game is set to begin at 3:50 pm.
In their last action, Concordia split a pair of games with Sioux Falls last Monday night, 14-24 and 10-8. Jack Holmberg finished the doubleheader 5-for-8 with two home runs and six RBIs. He hit a grand slam in game one and was just a double away from hitting for the cycle in game two.
The Bulldogs are led by outfielders Zach Williams and Nate Schmoll. Williams, a senior, has a .403 batting average. Schmoll, only a freshman, is second on the team in batting average (.370) and has 14 RBIs. Freshman southpaw Chris McNeil leads the pitching staff with a 2-2 record. Sophomores Kyle Spencer and Chris Nettles have struck out 23 batters in 25 innings this season.
Last week, NWC went 3-1 as they swept a pair of non-conference games against Waldorf and split with Doane last Monday. Senior Michael Janssen had a huge week as he batted .500 (7/14) with seven runs scored and eight RBIs. Jake Jansen also had a big week offensively, with six hits in 10 at-bats and seven RBIs.
Jake Koerselman picked up his fourth win of the season (4-0) with his win over Doane. He leads the Raider pitching staff with a 2.25 ERA in 20 innings pitched. Mihai Burlea pitched two scoreless innings in relief to increase his scoreless streak to 20 innings.
