Mar 5, 2007
The Northwestern baseball team will escape from snowy Orange City and play 10 games in Florida over the Spring Break. The Raiders are 1-1 in the young 2007 season and will play a combination of NAIA and NCAA D-III teams while in the Sunshine State. Coach Wede's squad will begin play on Monday morning against Trinity International (Ill.) at 9:30 a.m. and will then play Grace College (Ind.) at noon.
Northwestern split a doubleheader on Feb. 23 against Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan. The Raiders lost the first game, 20-21, but won the nightcap, 2-0. Juniors Joe Heitritter and Codie Zeutenhorst each pounded out four hits in seven at-bats for a .571 batting average to lead the offense. Zeutenhorst belted two home runs and had five RBIs. Jake Jansen added five hits and three RBIs and Curtis Bomgaars batted .333 with four runs batted in. Joe Grady led the Raider pitching staff with a complete game, two-hit shutout in game two of the doubleheader. He walked just one batter and struck out five.
After today's games, the Raiders return to the diamond on Tuesday to play Kenyon College and Trinity International.
