Red Raiders lose non-conference game to Morningside

The Red Raiders were on the losing end of a 2-9 score in a nonconference game against Morningside played in Sioux City. NW drops to 15-19 overall on the season and will resume GPAC play on Thursday in doubleheader against Briar Cliff.
The host Mustangs scored two in the bottom of the first off of Red Raider starter, Andrew Brower. NW scored one in the top of the fifth to cut the lead in half but Morningside put the game out of reach in the home half of the fifth with six runs to take an 8-2 lead. Each team scored one more run in the seventh to close out the scoring. Brower picked up the loss on the mound and drops to 1-4 on the season. The freshman righthander went two inning and gave up four hits and two earned runs. Junior Kent Wallings pitched two scoreless innings and allowed just one hit.
Offensively, NW managed just five hits, one each by Grant Lunning, Austin Malone, Jake Jansen, Michael Janssen and Ryan Kiel. Both Jake Jansen and Michael Janssen had an RBI. The Red Raiders stranded 10 runners on base in the nine-inning game.
