Red Raiders sweep Nebraska Wesleyan
|
Apr 21, 2006
The Red Raiders swept Nebraska Wesleyan in a baseball doublheader, recording a thrilling 5-3 win in game one and a 4-2 win in the nightcap. The first game looked as if it would go to the Prairie Wolves as they led 3-0 after the first 5 1/2 innings, but the Red Raiders rallied in the bottom of the sixth to score five runs, four of which were driven in by freshman Austin Malone when he belted a home run. Leading 5-3 in the top of the seventh, the Raider defense retired three consecutive NWU batters to hold on for the win.
The Raiders completed their sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan in the nightcap of a league doubleheader, knocking off the Prairie Wolves, 4-2. Scoring for each squad came early in the match-up, as NWU recorded two runs in the third, while the Raiders plated one in the second inning and three in the third. Senior Grant Lunning and junior Michael Janssen each recorded two hits for NWC, while sophomore Joseph Heitritter and freshman Matt Huhnerkoch notched a double apiece.
Sophomore pitcher Joe Grady picked up the win for Northwestern, while freshman Grant Wall was credited with the save.
NW will next host Doane in a GPAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 22, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
