A blank canvas
Tucker works with both paint and ceramics. As a double major in art and theatre, he also has been involved in numerous theatre productions, both as an actor and designer/technician. He is a member of the college’s improvisation team, Black V, and serves on both the Student Activities Council and the Student Government Association.
Coming into focus
“I knew Northwestern was the place for me when I first stepped on campus and the people were so warm and open. It felt like somewhere I could belong—it felt like home. This seemed like a place where I could focus on God and relationships, as well as classes.”
The masters
“I appreciate the faith the profs have in me—their encouragement that I become the best artist I can be is unmatched.”
Design plan
“Because I am a double major, my art benefits my theatre and vice versa. I’m really starting to get into designing for the stage, and that mixture of art and theatre offers career potential.”
Creative juice
“I admire Vincent Van Gogh and Picasso—both amazing. They’ve used their artistic gifts to open so many doors for future artists. For my art, I take simple things I did as a child and reinvent them. For example, once I took watered-down black paint and a drinking straw, and I used the straw to blow the paint around on paper. It turned out really awesome. Art really is for anyone and can be done by anyone.”
Free style
“I have a younger cousin who loves it when I bring my art supplies home. We get together and just make a mess on my mom’s kitchen floor. I love watching her; when she messes up, she uses the mistake to make her art more beautiful than it was before. That’s the kind of artist I want to be—carefree and honest.”
