Professor Vanderhill is a painter who also has experience as a photographer and advertising designer. He teaches photography, computer graphics, Introduction to Studio and painting. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He has sold his artwork in galleries throughout the Midwest, as well as participated in many exhibitions. Vanderhill and his wife, also an artist, share a studio in their home; they also grow art in their backyard in the form of a restored natural prairie.
