Hometown: Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux Center Community High School)
College attended: Northwestern ’00
Major/degree: B.A. in biology with a secondary education certification
Co-curricular activities in college: Campus ministry (SSP, Barnabas), wing Bible studies, Dance Team, one-acts, Student Activities Council (secretary), head of hospitality for concerts, orientation staff
Interesting or little-known fact about you: I earned a Naturalist Certificate through AuSable Institute, I once owned a fan-footed gecko and a giant tropical millipede for my high school classroom, I dyed my hair neon orange and green during the 1998 Sonshine Christian Music Festival, and I can turn doorknobs and open doors with my toes!
Favorite thing about Northwestern: At Northwestern, I’ve been challenged and encouraged to deeply contemplate God and my spirituality within a closely woven, supportive community of fellow Christians. The atmosphere here encourages worship, and I feel I can freely express myself to God in song during moments of solitude or during corporate worship, through work and academic learning, in fellowship with others and in fun, in the study of the Bible and prayer, and through hospitality and service.
Favorite place on campus: anywhere outside, Zwemer meditation room, Bultman Center gym, or Vanderhill Cottage attic
Given the choice, I’ll always order … Sorry—there’s no way I can choose a favorite restaurant, much less a favorite food!
