Servant leadership

College is a time to explore who you are and what you're made of. Like many Northwestern students, you might discover you're capable of more than you realized. When you talk, people listen; when you organize, big things get done; when you serve, people follow your lead. Leading by serving is what Christ did and what Christians who want to have an impact aim to imitate.

Intelligent, faithful leaders are needed in all arenas—from the board room to the dining room. We believe all our students, including you, have leadership potential, and we want to encourage and empower you. As you develop the skills, wisdom and courage foundational for transformational leadership, you'll be mentored by faculty and staff eager to see you become a next-generation standout.

Franken Servant Leadership Institute

The Franken Servant Leadership Institute was established in 2010 to support the development of Christ-like servant leaders who will capably and confidently bring their faith into their careers and communities after graduation. It was founded in memory of distinguished Northwestern alum and board member James Franken, who sought to lead like Jesus as CEO of an electrical engineering firm in northwest Iowa.
